·         In advance of the launch of the next two denominations in the new series of banknotes, the Bank of Israel is continuing to ensure the preparedness of the various automatic vending machines and cash withdrawal machines in the market.

·         The replacement of the banknotes from the old series (Series B) with banknotes from the new series (Series C) is proceeding as projected.

o   Since the launch of the new NIS 50 banknote in September 2014, about 90 percent of the banknotes in circulation have been replaced with banknotes from Series C.

o   Since the launch of the new NIS 200 banknote in December 2015, about 60 percent of the banknotes in circulation have been replaced with banknotes from Series C.

o   The automatic cash withdrawal machines in all banking corporations issue NIS 200 and NIS 50 banknotes from the new series only.

·         On the eve of the Passover holiday, the Bank of Israel calls upon those still holding NIS 50 and NIS 200 banknotes from Series B of the New Shekel to replace them with banknotes from the new series, at no cost, through the commercial banks, the Postal company, or the public cash window at the Bank of Israel.

In advance of the entry of the new NIS 20 and NIS 100 banknotes into circulation, which is expected later this year, the Bank of Israel is proceeding with the preparations required to complete the replacement of the banknote series.  As part of these efforts, at the end of 2016, samples of the new banknotes were provided to manufacturers, supplies and operators of vending, counting and sorting machines in order to calibrate their machines.  The Bank of Israel is monitoring the calibration process of the vending machines and is continuing to act by providing information, training and professional assistance to relevant parties in order to enable them to prepare technically and operationally for the calibration of their machines in a timely fashion.

“The Proper ‘Seder’ in Israel’s Banknotes for the Passover holiday”—The Bank of Israel calls on all those who still have NIS 50 and NIS 200 banknotes from Series B (see pictures below) to replace them, at no fee, with new banknotes at the commercial banks, the Postal Bank, and the public cash window at the Bank of Israel in Jerusalem.  Alternatively, Series B banknotes can be deposited in bank accounts or used.

During periods when banknote series are replaced, counterfeiters and other criminal players   try to profit unlawfully by distributing copies and photocopies of banknotes, taking advantage of the public’s lack of acquaintance with the new banknotes and their security features.  As such, the Bank of Israel invites the public to learn about the new series of banknotes and the security features they bear, which are identical on all the new banknotes, at the Bank of Israel’s website:

The Bank of Israel will soon announce the precise date for the launch of the other two banknotes, details regarding their security features, and timetables for the replacement of Series B banknotes with new banknotes, at the commercial banks, the Postal Bank and the Bank of Israel.
