Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Amir Yaron today announced his decision to appoint Mr. Lior Georgi to the position of Director of the Bank’s Information Technology Department. Mr. Georgi will take up the position immediately. The Governor made the decision after interviewing a small number of candidates who were proposed for his examination by the search committee led by outgoing Director General Hezi Kalo.

Mr. Georgi has risen through the ranks of the Bank of Israel, which he joined in 2004. He has served in a range of positions in information technology areas. Most recently he has served as Head of the Technological Infrastructures Division at the Bank. Within the framework of that position he has been responsible for the entire computing system of the Bank of Israel and for the promotion of numerous projects in the areas of digitization and computing.

As part of his various roles, Georgi led organizational changes in the Department, development and implementation of innovation in information technology processes, complex contracts and tenders vis-à-vis many suppliers, and advanced processes in the emergency and business continuity spheres.

Li

or Georgi has a Bachelors degree in Computer Engineering from Hebrew University and a Masters degree in Computer Science from Hadassah Academic College in Jerusalem.

Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Amir Yaron said, “I welcome the appointment of Lior Georgi to the position of Director of the Bank’s Information Technology Department. From my perspective it is a certificate of honor for an employee who rose through the ranks at the Bank of Israel and advanced to a position as a member of the Bank’s management. Lior’s vast experience and his knowledge of the various IT systems at the Bank will help him considerably in leading the Department, and the Bank overall, to making a further leap up in this area and to realize the strategic plan in which Lior took part in these areas. In the current crisis we have seen how important strong computer and technological infrastructures, at the same time as flexibility for business continuity needs, are to an organization. I am pleased that Lior and all the employees in the Information Technology Department have enabled the Bank to operate successfully in such a critical period and I am very confident that they will continue their work successfully, under Lior’s leadership. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the previous Director of the IT Department, Mr. Avner Ziv, for his contribution to the Department and the Bank in the years in which he served in the position.”

Lior Georgi, the incoming Director of the Information Technology Department, said, “I was very excited to receive the notice of my appointment to the position from the Chief Information Officer of the Bank of Israel. I would like to thank Governor of the Bank of Israel Prof. Amir Yaron and Director General Ms. Shulamit Geri for choosing me for the position and for the trust that they have placed in me. For me, this appointment closes a personal circle from the stage of my acceptance at the Bank 16 years ago as a temporary worker through receiving this position. I would like to thank the outgoing Chief Information Officer, Mr. Avner Ziv, during whose tenure I was appointed to Head of the Division, a position that allowed me to develop, to advance, and to arrive prepared at this position. I have every confidence that together with the people of the Department we will lead the Bank to significant technological achievements.
