• As part of the digital banking concept that guidance for senior citizens in acclimating to digital banking is an ongoing process, the Banking Supervision Department is launching another round of activities with the aim of allowing more senior citizens, who did not participate in the training programs in 2018, to participate and to benefit from tools to increase their skills in using digital banking services.

  • From June 23 to July 4, 2019, there will be lectures on "digital banking empowerment" for senior citizens in dozens of municipalities and regional authorities across the country.  Afterwards, between July and October 2019, seniors will be invited to individual sessions at bank branches, where they will be able to gain experience with the digital banking services provided by the bank where they manage their accounts.

  • These activities are an initiative of the Banking Supervision Department at the Bank of Israel, which is being held in conjunction with the Association of Directors General of Municipalities and Regional Authorities in Israel, and through the banking system and the Association of Banks.

Supervisor of Banks Dr. Hedva Ber said, "We attribute great importance to guiding senior citizens through the process of acclimating to digital banking, and we are therefore continuing the expanded national program to provide personal guidance to senior citizens in getting to know the basic digital banking services.

"I invite all senior citizens who have not yet participated in the personal lectures and training sessions to do so.

"I would also like to thank the association of directors general of the municipalities and regional authorities in Israel for their cooperation, and to thank the banking system and the Association of Banks for their full participation in bringing this program to fruition."

The Banking Supervision Department leads various activities each year to increase financial awareness among various population groups in Israeli society, including to reduce information gaps, improve economic well-being, increase the public's awareness of its rights, and protect the banking customer.

With the aim of guiding senior citizens in acclimating to digital banking, and in order to provide them with tools to improve their skills at using such services, the first round of "digital banking empowerment for senior citizens" activities was held in 2018, and included generic lectures throughout Israel, as part of the Ministry of Social Equality's "Tuesdays for Seniors" programs, followed by personal training sessions at the bank branches on the digital banking services that exist at the bank where they manage their accounts.

As part of the Banking Supervision Department's concept that guidance for senior citizens in acclimating to digital banking is an ongoing process, the Banking Supervision Department is launching another round of activities with the aim of allowing more senior citizens, who did not participate in the training programs in 2018, to participate in lectures and in gaining personal experience, in acclimating to digital banking.

Seniors who are interested in increasing their knowledge and experience with digital banking services are also invited to this round.

The activities will be conducted along the following schedule:

Part One – Between June 23 and July 4, 2019, there will be a generic lecture on "digital banking empowerment" in dozens of municipalities and regional authorities throughout Israel, which will deal with broad information on digital banking, its advantages, and how to use it.

Part Two – With the aim of providing personal and structured guidance for senior citizens in becoming familiar with the basic digital banking services, there will be personal training sessions at the bank branches between July and October, which will deal with the digital banking services that exist at the bank where they manage their accounts, including practical hands-on training.

During the individual sessions, the following topics will be among those discussed:

  •       Familiarization with the bank's website
  •       Learning to use the bank's cellular application
  •       Digital tracking of transactions in the account
  •       Making bank transactions through the automatic machines: depositing cash, depositing checks, and so forth.

Registration for the personal training sessions at the bank branches is open to all senior citizens, even those who did not participate in Part One—the lectures taking place at the municipalities and regional authorities.
