· Since the launch of the new NIS 50 banknote in September 2014, almost 90 percent of the banknotes in circulation have been replaced with Series C banknotes.
· Since the launch of the new NIS 200 banknote in December 2015, more than half of the banknotes in circulation have been replaced with Series C banknotes.
· The Bank of Israel is preparing for ending the replacement of the NIS 200 Series B banknotes in circulation by the time the remaining two denominations, of Series C, are launched at the end of 2017.
· The Bank of Israel is continuing to act in order to ensure the readiness of the various vending machines and ATM's in advance of the launch of the two remaining denominations.
Leading up to the entry into circulation of the new NIS 20 and NIS 100 banknotes, the Bank of Israel is progressing in the preparations necessary for completing the replacement of the series. It is worth noting that since the issue of the new NIS 200 banknote in December 2015, more than half of the banknotes of that denomination have been replaced, as planned.
As part of the early preparations for the launch of the third and fourth denominations in the new series of banknotes, the Bank of Israel provided initial samples of the banknotes in December 2016 to manufacturers, providers and operators of vending, counting and sorting machines that are required to calibrate their machines to accept the new banknotes. The bank of Israel is continuing to invest tremendous efforts in providing information and assistance to professionals in order to enable them to make timely technical and operational preparations and to provide them with sufficient time, at their request, to calibrate the machines under their responsibility.
During the period of replacement of the series of banknotes, counterfeiters and other criminals try to generate prohibited profits by distributing copied banknotes, while exploiting the public’s lack of acquaintance with the new banknotes and with their security features. As such, the Bank of Israel invites the public to learn about the banknotes of the new series and the security features embedded in them, which are identical in all of the new banknotes, on the Bank’s website and cellular application.
The Bank of Israel will soon publish additional details regarding the launch date of the two remaining denominations, the security features embedded in them, and timetables for the replacement of existing banknotes with new banknotes at commercial banks and at the Bank of Israel.
