Investment in Israeli shares and government bonds
 
Bonds and makam traded in Tel Aviv: In March, nonresidents invested about a net $380 million in government bonds traded in Tel Aviv. Nonresidents’ net activity in makam essentially balanced out in March.
There were net investments by nonresidents of about $30 million in government bonds traded abroad.
 
Investments in Israeli shares: In March, nonresidents invested about $260 million in shares on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (TASE). Similarly, nonresidents invested about $40 million in Israeli shares traded abroad.
 
Nonresidents' direct investment in Israel: In March, nonresidents' direct investment in Israel via the banking system totaled about $1.2 billion, of which about $300 million was an investment in one company. Activity was concentrated in the manufacturing and production industry and the information and communications industry.
 
 
RESIDENTS
Moderation in net investment flow by Israeli residents into foreign shares and bonds
 
In March, Israeli residents invested about a net $810 million in financial investments (stocks and bonds) abroad.
 
Shares: In March, Israeli residents invested about $110 million in foreign shares traded abroad: households invested a net $260 million, of which $50 million were through mutual funds. In contrast, institutional investors, mainly insurance companies, sold about $180 million.
 
Bonds: Israeli residents invested about $700 million, net, in bonds traded abroad—net investments of about $290 million by institutional investors, mainly provident funds and advanced-training funds, about $280 million by households, and about $130 million by the business sector.
 
Direct investment abroad: Israeli residents made direct investments abroad totaling about $180 million. Most of the investments were by companies in the manufacturing and production industry and financial and insurance activity.
