Employment and Wages Prior to Retirement


 
  • The employment rate of those aged 55 and over has increased significantly during the past decade.
  • The rate of employees continuing to work from year to year among those nearing retirement age is similar to the rates among those in their early 40s. The wage trend among older continuing workers is also similar to those of younger continuing workers.
  • Between 2003 and 2009, the likelihood of older workers remaining in employment increased at a greater rate than among those in their early 40s.
