Bank of Israel Governor Dr. Karnit Flug has decided to appoint Mr. Daniel Hahiashvili as Chief of Staff to the Governor. He will replace Mr. Eddy Azoulay, who has been appointed Acting Director representing Israel at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London.

Daniel Hahiashvili began working at the Bank of Israel 12 years ago in the Off-site Examination Division of the Banking Supervision Department.  Between 2009 and 2013, he served as Unit Head in the Division, and for the past year, he has served as Head of Central Services in the Banking Supervision Department and as a member of the Department’s management.  In his various positions, he has accumulated tremendous experience in the areas of regulation and banking, and participated in the implementation of work processes in the Banking Supervision Department and in the banking system in Israel that were derived from the financial crisis and international regulatory requirements.

Daniel Hahiashvili holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Law, and a Master’s degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, both with distinction.  Since 2003, he has served as a lecturer at the Lev Academic Center, and since 2006 at the Hebrew University, in courses dealing with the Israeli economy and banking.

Bank of Israel Governor Dr. Karnit Flug said: “I thank Daniel for agreeing to take on the position of Chief of Staff to the Governor.  His tremendous experience and professional background will help him succeed in this important position.”

The Governor added: “Eddy Azoulay has held the position of Chief of Staff since 2008 and performed exceptionally well during a very challenging period and under two governors—my predecessor Prof. Stanley Fischer, and myself.  Eddy made a significant contribution to the work of the Bank in general, and to the successful management of the Governor’s Office in particular, and I would like to thank him with all my heart for his excellent work, which was characterized above all by professionalism and dedication throughout the period, and to wish him success in his new position.”

Daniel Hahiashvili will take up his position in the next few weeks.
