The annual mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to Israel began its discussions in Israel with a meeting this morning in Jerusalem with the Governor and management of the Bank of Israel. The mission, consisting of five economists and headed by Richard Haas, will stay in Israel until 12 December and will draft their report on Israel's economy. |
As in past years, the mission will meet with leading figures in Israel's public and private sectors, including the Governor and senior personnel of the Bank of Israel, the Minister of Finance and senior Ministry personnel, senior officials in the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Labor, and academics. |
Richard Haas works as advisor in the IMF's European Department. This is the second year in which he has led the mission to Israel. |
At the end of its visit to Israel, on 12 December 2005, the mission will submit its initial report to the Ministry of Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Israel. This will be followed by the detailed annual report compiled in Washington, which will be submitted to the Executive Board of the IMF, as occurs with every member country of the Fund. |
The IMF reports are widely distributed and arouse great interest in the world money markets, and they affect the rating of economies reviewed and the recommendations of investment banks world wide. |
