By law, the authority to cancel banknotes rests with the Governor of the Bank of Israel. Even though the matter has been raised, the Governor has thus far not been shown any sufficiently established professional justification to cancel any banknote. The suggestions that have been raised on the matter by various sources do not meet any minimal professional standard, the likelihood of their implementation is nonexistent, and they have not been presented in any proper manner to the Governor or been coordinated in any way with the Bank of Israel. Therefore, the Governor of the Bank of Israel has no intention of using his authority to cancel any banknote or to change the mix of banknotes in circulation.
The Bank of Israel emphasizes that the NIS 200 banknote currently in circulation, similar to the other banknotes and coins, will continue to be used as normal.
