Past and present through the lens of Israeli currency
Currency is one of the clearest symbols of a country’s sovereignty. The guiding theme of the design of Israeli currency is unique, since when the State of Israel was established, it was decided that Israeli coins would bear motifs based on symbols drawn from ancient Jewish coins and archaeological findings from Jewish localities in the ancient Land of Israel. This gave expression to our past history and to the continuing link between the Jewish nation and the Land of Israel through the centuries.
